About The Mad Butcher

The Mad butcher is a chain of butcheries within New Zealand, they promote themselves as appealing to the ordinary kiwi and having good quality meat for the ‘barbie’. There are Mad butcher stores across the country, several of which are franchises. These stores provide meat packs and general butchery food items, they also have onsite butchers for those customers that require a particular cut of meat. All of the beef and lamb is New Zealand quality certified and the Mad butcher pork is NZ grown. The Mad Butcher works with Tegal chicken, a New Zealand supplier of chicken, to provide high quality poultry to its customers.

The Mad Butcher sells meat packs, lamb, beef, pork, poultry, dairy products and other bbq style foods.  They have a range of awesome discounts available in their brochures, with weekly deals, discounts on certain meals, party packs and much more! Check out the Mad Butcher catalogue for the latest deals and discounts.

History

The Mad Butcher was founded by Sir Peter Leitch, a prominent New Zealand businessman, in 1971. Leitch opened a butchery store in Mangere East (Auckland) and in 2012 the brand “the Mad Butcher” came about as a household kiwi name.  When asked about the name Leitch explained that it came from someone referring to him as “that f***ing mad butcher” at his local pub. The mad butcher himself - Sir Peter Leitch, was knighted in 1991 for his service to the community. Leitch is known for his support of New Zealand rugby and New Zealand rugby league, and was often featured as a sponsor for the New Zealand Warriors. His brand became known for having a “kiwi as” culture and relating to the general kiwi population.

The company works with a range of local charities to provide support for the local community. During New Zealand’s lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, the Mad Butcher sold deliverable meat packs to the local community, however only some of the franchises still offer deliverable options.

It is worth checking out the Mad Butcher brochere to find out the weekly meat pack specials, if there are any great bbq deals and what meat supplies you can stock up on.
