History

New World was founded in 1963, and was based off of the American “full service” supermarket model. This means that each individual supermarket must stock a minimum inventory of the following food groups: fresh and frozen meats, canned food, frozen vegetables, dairy products, cereals, breads and baby food. The supermarket chain previously worked off of a coupon system however shifted to ‘club cards’ in 2014 in the South Island and then adopted the club card system in the North Island in 2016. It is part of the Foodstuffs co-operative, which also includes Pak n Save and Four Square supermarkets.

New World have their own private label brands sold within the supermarket, these include PamsPams Finest, Pams Super Food and Value. Additionally many New World supermarkets have their own on-site butcher and bakery so provide high quality on site meat and baking.

They have online recipes and meal options that are offered both in their mailer and as an in store browsing option. So you can shop to a specific recipe, and collect your favourite recipes.
